Gemassist: You are the Gem. We are here to assist you!
After suffering a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) due to a rare neurological condition, Gemassist Brain Awareness founder, Deborah Marie was forced to leave her successful career as an engineer. Through neurorehabilitation under the expert care of a team of doctors in Louisville, KY, she was able to “wake up” the creative centers of her brain and transition from engineer to an artist, finding new purpose in her life after TBI! You can learn more about her specific journey here.
Through a desire to pay it forward and help other patients suffering serious neurological injuries, Gemassist Brain Awareness Foundation was born.
We strive to educate patients and their caregivers about the power of neuroplasticity to improve treatment outcomes after neurological injuries. We want to ensure that people with neurological injuries including Traumatic Brain Injuries, Acquired Brain Injuries, and Spinal Cord Injuries, are equipped with the knowledge to advocate for their own neurorehabilitation. You can learn more about neuroplasticity in the Education & Support section of this website.
Gemassist also seeks our other organizations that can provide additional resources for these medical issues. A portion of Foundation funds are specifically designated for this purpose. We regularly donate to organizations and facilities that align with our goals.
While we are mainly active in the Louisville, Kentucky, and Atlanta, Georgia areas, we hope to expand beyond those areas in the future!
