Just a Georgia Gal in Derby City...

Having only left Georgia in 2019 after following my neurologist here, I knew practically nothing about the Kentucky Derby before I moved to Louisville. So you can imagine my culture shock experiencing all that is the Derby and Derby time here!

Even though it's been nearly five years, I'm still not used to the way businesses all but shut down for a week. It's intimidating knowing which Derby events to go to. Should I attend one of the charity galas? Which ones? If I go to the Pegasus Parade, where will I park? What's appropriate to wear to a Derby Party? Where's the best place to buy a Derby Hat? Should I make my own Derby Hat? Why is there so much traffic? What if I don't like Mint Juleps? 

Though I know how to bet on the horses, I've never been to Churchill Downs. I think I'll make that a priority later this year, after the Derby fervor passes.

What are your favorite Derby events? I'm learning I need to plan my Derby events schedule further in advance next year!
